Doris Murphy is the first to say that she and her husband Patrick are only able to remain living in their own Kardinya home as a result of the support services received from RAAFA Connect.

“The girls from RAAFA Connect are terrific and we are really very happy with the service, we wouldn’t have things any different,” says 76-year-old Doris, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s when she was 60.

“Previously I had lots of falls, and as Pat has MS we both have some health issues to deal with, but the girls come in every weekday to help us with showering, shopping, cooking and they also take us out for lunch several times a week.

“We have a number of ladies come in and they are all wonderful, particularly Marina, Hayley and Michaela, as well as the relief carers.

“We really only have to look after ourselves at the weekend, and each weekday we have support for several hours, which means we are able to get out and about and also live in our own home, which is where we want to be.”

Marina Corkery from RAAFA Connect says her job is very rewarding when it comes to helping individuals to stay living independently at home.

“We are very much a team and I think all of us girls are very happy to be integral in terms of keeping Doris and Pat living in the home that they love so much,” she said.

“All of our team have different roles, whether it is domestic assistance, cooking or showering, but I’m there every day filling in the gaps, and all of us are absolutely dedicated to doing whatever it takes to make the household run smoothly, and ensure that life is as good as it can be for Pat and Doris, who are such a lovely couple.”
