The residents of Vivian Bullwinkel Lodge were lucky enough to have Blackjack the gentle giant Clydesdale stop in for a visit in early July.
It was a beautiful day for Blackjack’s visit so that the residents were able to get out in the sunshine to enjoy a pat or a hug, and just meeting and feeding the friendly giant.
It was lovely to see the residents faces light up when they were greeting and communicating with Blackjack.
There were plenty of smiles, with Blackjack strutting around the garden courtyard, with everyone in awe of his beauty and sheer size.
Blackjack’s visit was a great initiative from the therapy staff, as animal therapy has been shown to be worthwhile across all age brackets and levels of function, often improving social, emotional and cognitive functioning.
Blackjack was definitely a hot topic at lunch that day and you never know, he may be back for a visit again sometime soon.
