Bitten By The Travel Bug

Bitten By The Travel Bug

It’s fair to say that Helen Zliko has a passion for travel, and she’s the first person to admit that her RAAFA estate lifestyle makes her ability to lock up and leave for six months at a time all that much easier.

“It’s an absolutely wonderful feeling to go away and know that everything is safe,” says the keen caravaner and globetrotter, who is 76 years young.

“Denise in the office is absolutely marvellous and has been just wonderful to me, I pop in and let her know that I’m going away and that I’ve turned everything off, and she knows what’s happening and looks out for my home, as do my neighbours - I’d give the staff in the office 10 out of 10, they really are fantastic.”

Helen says she decided to move into Meadow Springs around five years ago after losing her husband, and deciding that her large 4 x 2 home was too big and the garden was just too much.

“I was on my own for about six years and then I met Bruce who lives only a kilometre away and was in the local Caravan Club,” she explains.

“It’s wonderful having each other as companions and we go away every month to a different country town for around four nights and we have a fantastic time. We visit places like Harvey, Nannup, Manjimup and Balingup and there is a group of us that meets around 5.00pm for happy hour, and then spend the weekend together, going off to the town’s hotel for lunch and visiting whatever attractions there are.”

When Helen goes further afield, she can be away for six months at a time, but when she is home, she admits to feeling extremely safe at the estate.

“It really is a wonderful place to live and I feel very safe here, especially as the gates are locked at night,” she said. “It has an absolutely wonderful vibe and I would suggest to anyone that they come and have a look if they’re at all interested in downsizing or moving into a beautiful and safe retirement estate.”
